Clément Thoby

Paris, Fance

Clément Thoby is a virtuoso with soft-lead pencils, color pencils and oil pastels.
Drawn to motion and movement as much as to illustration, he mastered in animation at EMCA Angouleme and went on to work on big animation productions as an artistic director for the next five years. But his passion for traveling and sketching took over before long, and he now focuses on creating colorful designs that convey his fascination with nature, trees and Japan. The strokes of his pencils are very much like brushstrokes, and the vibrant colors of his poetic work create an impressionistic and cinematographic atmosphere, full of mystery, in which we pleasantly wander. Clément does editorial work with clients such as The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, The Guardian US, Zeit, L’Obs, Le Monde, Les Echos, publishers such as Little Brown & Company and Canongate, and on a wide range of other projects.
